If you are involved in the business of manufacturing or shipping commercial goods, then you must know how important it is to make use of pallets. Although they can be made up of different materials like timber, plastic, and metal, timber ones are the most popular probably due to their eco-friendly nature, affordability and -durability. Whether you are a buyer, seller or shipper, when you go to the market to buy pallets, you will see that all of them look almost the same. But there are different types that suit several purposes and types of goods to be handled.
Let’s have a look at different types of timber pallets available in the market.
Timber Pallets |
- Solid Deck Pallets
These pallets have a solid deck surface made of a single big sheet of wood. They look modern and chic and are often preferred by most contemporary customers. They are easy to transport and clean as well. They are perfect for storing or transporting items that are small. Since there is no gap or cracks in these timber pallets, they do not allow small items to slip through them.
- Block Pallets
Block timber pallets are more popular due to their 4-way entry. This means that these pallets can be easily accessed with a forklift from all four sides. Generally, they have 4 to 12 cylindrical timber posts which help in stabilizing the top deck board. You may buy them with or without the bottom boards, and there are many configurations of these pallets to choose from. These pallets contain both parallel and perpendicular stringers to maximize efficiency and strength. Block pallets are strong because of extra stringer boards in them, which make these pallets more stable and durable.
- Stringer Pallets
Stringers are the boards that run between the bottom and top deck boards to support the load of the pallet. Since these timber pallets have stringers in them, they are called stringer pallets. These pallets are available in two types, 2-way pallets, and 4-way pallets. 2-way pallets allow access from two sides only with a forklift. On the other hand, 4-way pallets allow access from all four sides with a forklift. The stringers may be notched, or block designed. Pallets with notched stringers give 4-way access with a forklift only, and a 2-way entry with a pallet jack. On the other hand, a block design stringer pallet allows 4-way entry with a forklift as well as a pallet jack.
- Double Face Pallets

These timber pallets comprise of decks on the bottom as well as top surfaces. The deck at the bottom helps in increasing the pallet’s strength and evenly distributing the load’s weight. They can be reversible or non-reversible. Reversible ones may be flipped so that you can stack the items on both sides. Non-reversible pallets have single surface only with dense planks to store and pack the materials.
- Double Wing Pallets
The design of these timber pallets consists of a bottom and top deck boards that extend beyond the stringer boards. Due to this, they look like wings on the side of the pallets, thus their name double wing pallets. They are easier to hold, lift and carry, and keep your goods safe and stable.
Now, you know the different types of timber pallets so you should choose the one that best suits your purpose and the type of materials you are going to keep, carry or transport in them. Whichever type you select, make sure that they are made of strong timber which is durable and can withstand the wear and tear when it may undergo during transportation.
